“L.F.” arrived at Children’s Vision as a frightened young boy with almost nothing.

His mother loved him fiercely, but there was no father in the picture, and crushing poverty shaped every part of his life. Food was uncertain. Safety was fragile. Hope was almost nonexistent. Without intervention, his future could easily have been swallowed by the same cycles of violence, addiction, and despair that trap so many vulnerable children.

Then everything changed.

Children’s Vision became more than a shelter — it became family. For the first time, “L.F.” experienced stability, protection, education, encouragement, and the simple dignity of having his needs met.

At the Beginning of Wisdom School, he flourished. Teachers discovered a gifted, determined young man with extraordinary potential. At only 17 years old, he became one of the first in generations of his family to graduate from high school.

But his story didn’t stop there.

While working and living independently, “L.F.” pursued an even bigger dream: attending university. Through relentless determination — and a partial scholarship made possible by supporters like you — he earned a degree in Information Technology with top honors.

Today, he works for a leading company in Colombia and is building a life that once seemed impossible.

At a recent Children’s Vision event, he reflected on his journey, hugged his Dad¹ and quietly said:

“Who knows where I might have ended up? Thank you for saving my life.”

That is the power of investing in a child’s future.

Some moments change a life forever.

One of the pre-teen girls at Children’s Vision had a birthday approaching. When asked what she wanted, her answer stunned everyone:

“Mom, Dad¹… for my birthday, I want my little sister to come live here with me.”

It was the most selfless birthday wish we had ever heard.

Her younger sister was still living in dangerous conditions — the kind of environment where children can disappear into trafficking, violence, exploitation, and hopelessness in a single moment.

Our team began searching.

Days later, by God’s grace, they found her.

Terrified and vulnerable, the little girl was rescued and brought to safety. Slowly, the fear in her eyes gave way to something she had not known in a very long time: hope.

We will never forget the moment the sisters saw each other again. They ran into one another’s arms, laughing and crying together.

Instead of growing up separated by trauma and fear, they grew up together surrounded by love, protection, education, and opportunity. They celebrated birthdays, built friendships, dreamed about their futures, and discovered what childhood was supposed to feel like.

Today, both sisters are thriving adults living independently.

One now works in healthcare and is pursuing advanced studies to become a therapy professional. The other uses her English skills in sales and business. Both continue to volunteer with Children’s Vision, helping create hope for the next generation of vulnerable children.

One selfless birthday wish changed two lives forever.

“D” was only two years old when tragedy shattered his family.

His father was killed by a landmine in a violent guerrilla-controlled region where children were often treated as disposable. In many communities, young boys were forced into dangerous labor, including planting landmines.

His mother knew if they stayed, her son’s future could be stolen by violence before he ever had the chance to dream.

Desperate for safety and hope, she found Children’s Vision.

For the first time in his life, “D” experienced what every child deserves: security, belonging, encouragement, and joy. His days became filled with school, birthday celebrations, camps, pizza nights, park visits, and the laughter of children finally free to simply be children.

Most importantly, he discovered people who believed in him.

That belief changed everything.

After graduating high school, “D” earned a scholarship to study architecture — an opportunity that transformed his future forever.

The day he graduated from university, diploma in hand, he stood beside us¹ and said:

“This diploma is more than a piece of paper. This is an investment of a lifetime. You invested in me. Thank you. I am the greatest example of what help can do — it changes a destiny. You believed in me.”

Today, “D” is a partner in an architectural business, building both a successful career and a future filled with possibility.

A child once surrounded by violence is now designing buildings, creating opportunity, and dreaming about raising a family of his own.

That transformation happened because someone chose to care.
